The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror Merging Silent Hill with Among Us Mechanics

The latest Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several fascinating upcoming titles, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience seems to fuse together the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive experience where a young woman harboring several personalities within her must escape from a labyrinth of the mind," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed female protagonist who appears to be of teenage years. Inside her reside four separate personas, each with their own anxieties and drives. These souls can take over spontaneously, unleashing their innermost terrors upon her suddenly.

Based on revealed footage, much of the action takes place within a creepy medical facility, while additional clips show the protagonist navigating a desolate church.

A World of Personal Horror

"What are you fearful of? What causes you uneasy?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Elements that seem trivial to others can activate a deep instinct inside us. This game explores that concept — fears that are unique to every individual."

The core gameplay loop involves managing whichever soul emerges at a particular time. However, these souls will change against your will during gameplay. During exploration, every persona's fears become exaggerated and assault the girl in succession. As the persona changes, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Decision

At first glance, UN:Me displays striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is filled with orderlies who all share the same face, with unnervingly wide grins. Patients in the waiting room have enormous flowers growing from their heads are. Flowers are a recurring element, contrasting natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four entities haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the souls asserts that the body is rightfully them," notes a developer. "During the game, you must determine who is authentic."

Once players have deduced a soul is an impostor, they must eliminate it. However, because every entity can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already eliminated the real [soul] by your own actions," the narration states. "The final entity remaining might be a fake. Either way, your decisions are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed launch window, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
