The beloved crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh season, confirmed by the broadcaster.

An upcoming six-episode season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the network.

The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Her co-star added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."

The previous season concluded in 2021 with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but official word only arrived recently.

New Challenges for The Team

The seventh season will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.

Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue working to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.

The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case so far."

Fresh Face and Complex Case

An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to become a sexual predator.

However, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the background, the teaser suggested.

Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."

"We're privileged to have had so many fans watch the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a seventh season."

He added: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."

Cast Reactions

Martin Compston described appearing in the police drama as "the role of a career".

"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."

"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he said.

Vicky McClure remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited Line of Duty is back! Eager to work with the creator, Compston and Adrian again. The city, we'll see you soon!"

The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the unit return, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be back filming next year."

"Pleased with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."

Show History

Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the last decade, attracting guest stars such as Lennie James.

The BBC haven't revealed when the upcoming series will hit screens.

The finale of series six brought the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team indicated at the moment there were no plans for additional seasons.

However, the corporation confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now being produced.
